📈 Conversations start at £65k p.a. Senior role, DOE.
⚠️ This is a hybrid role (Tuesdays & Fridays in the Brighton office).
⚠️ Applicants must be located in and eligible to work in the UK. We can't currently support or sponsor visa applications.

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join ASquared. When we say senior, we mean someone with the experience, craft and judgement to take ownership of difficult product & design problems and move them forward.

You’ll be comfortable with ambiguity, strategic by nature, confident with clients and able to make excellent, informed decisions with little to no direction. You’ll know when to research, prototype, challenge, iterate and ship. And while strategy and systems thinking matters, so does your craft: you know how to combine interaction design, typography, hierarchy, visual design and great taste that turns a good idea into a genuinely great product.

What you’ll be doing

Our work spans scaleups and established organisations but focuses primarily on exciting early-stage ventures through our Impact Builder. One day you might be helping a startup founder make sense of an early proposition, and the next you might be untangling a complex product with established users, technology and stakeholders.

In this role you’ll:

  • Own product design end-to-end. From early user-centred discovery and understanding the problem through to polished, build-ready UI, and always working alongside engineers during delivery.
  • Turn ambiguity into direction. You don’t need a perfect brief to get moving. Give you a messy problem, some constraints and the right people to talk to, and you’ll work out what needs to happen next.
  • Talk to humans. You’re comfortable interviewing users and stakeholders, running testing sessions, finding the things people don’t necessarily put in the brief. Plus you’re able to communicate the process and value of design for those who might not realise it.
  • Run workshops that go somewhere. Not workshops for the sake of workshops. You love to facilitate a room, ask good questions and drive people towards an outcome.
  • Make complicated things feel simple. You’re strong across journeys, flows, information architecture and interaction design, and can untangle a genuinely difficult product problem rather than just make a straightforward one look beautiful.
  • Prototype to think. You use sketches, wireframes and prototypes to quickly explore ideas, test assumptions and earn buy-in; and you know wireframes aren’t simply deliverables.
  • Care about the last 20%. You’re a strong visual and UI designer with an eye for typography, hierarchy, layout and detail. You know when something is merely usable and when it actually feels good.
  • Work with engineers, not just hand work over to them. You’ll stay involved through delivery, make pragmatic decisions when reality intervenes and help make sure what ships retains the quality of the thinking behind it.
  • Hold your own with clients. You can explain and defend your decisions without hiding behind design jargon, accept feedback, challenge people constructively and change your mind when the evidence says you should.
  • Raise the bar around you. You’ll give direct, useful critique, share what you know and help less experienced designers get better.
  • 🤖🦾 Smart AI workflows & tooling. We expect you to be aware of the power of using AI in a design capacity, without letting it do your job for you. You use AI to accelerate research, exploration, prototyping and the wider product design process, and can demonstrate how you use it in your current workflows. But your judgement, and not the tool, is what really matters.

What we’re looking for

You’ll probably have at least 6 years of professional product, UX or digital design experience in an equivalent role, and are looking to take your next step. Rest assured we care considerably more about how you operate than the number on your CV.

We’d expect to see:

  • A strong portfolio of real, shipped digital products, with real constraints and outcomes.
  • End-to-end product design experience across research, UX, interaction and visual design.
  • Excellent design fundamentals and a genuinely strong aesthetic sense.
  • Strong Figma operator skills, including prototyping, components and design systems.
  • Experience working closely with engineers and an understanding of how software actually gets built.
  • Confidence presenting directly to, and working with, clients and senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage your own work, priorities and communication without needing continual direction.

Agency or consultancy experience would be particularly useful as you’ll need to get up to speed with unfamiliar organisations and products quickly. Native mobile, SaaS, complex B2B or early-stage product experience would also be valuable.

What senior means at ASquared

Senior doesn’t mean knowing everything or never asking for help. It means having the judgement to take responsibility for the work, and proactively know when to seek advice from others.

You can make decisions with incomplete information, disagree with a client without making the relationship difficult, defend good work without becoming precious about it, and ask for another perspective because it might make the work better.

Why ASquared?

You’ll get the variety of studio life with real ownership, and get to work on projects that are truly impactful and interesting. As a B Corp we firmly believe in using Tech for Good. Plus you’ll work directly with founders, clients, users and engineers, often from the earliest conversations through to what actually gets built.

We’re a central Brighton-based digital product studio working across mobile apps, web products and digital platforms. We’re also the studio behind Impact Builder, our venture-building programme for purpose-led startups, and we’re a certified B Corp.

If you enjoy difficult problems, still care deeply about the craft and want meaningful autonomy without having to become a people manager, we’d like to meet you.

The practical stuff

🔹 Flexible hybrid working. We spend Tuesdays and Fridays together at our Platf9rm office in Brighton as a team, with the option to work from home or Platf9rm the rest of the week
🔹 Access to wellbeing resources including counselling, GP services and much more, via 360 Wellbeing
🔹 Digital Nomad policy: work from anywhere in the world for up to a month per year, post-probation
🔹 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing over time
🔹 Extra day off for your birthday
🔹 NEST pension
🔹 Employee referral scheme (£500, subject to conditions)
🔹 Monthly social events, team lunches, and networking opportunities
🔹 Dog-friendly office. Bring your pooch along
🔹 A blended team that wants someone senior enough to challenge them, not just agree with them

Applying

Send us your CV and portfolio.

Your portfolio matters considerably more to us than how polished your CV is. We want to understand the problems you tackled, what you actually did, the decisions you made and why, where things changed, and what happened when the product reached users.

We don’t expect a portfolio full of perfect projects. An experienced designer who can talk clearly and candidly about the difficult ones is much more interesting.

ASquared is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to building an inclusive working environment.
